To recruit more apprentices across Gloucestershire, GFirst LEP is supporting a major event in March to attract young people into apprenticeships across a wide range of disciplines to drive economic growth.

A two day Skillsfest event is being held at Gloucestershire College on Friday 7th March and Saturday 8th March to attract local employees and young people to understand the career opportunities available through apprenticeship schemes. In its third year running, the event aims to attract over 2,000 young people and will include taster sessions in hair and beauty, engineering through to media and army skills. Included in a line-up of over 50 exhibitors, there will be cooking demonstrations from Chefs on Tour, with displays of design and performing arts. A range of experts from colleges, training providers and skills organisations will also be on hand to give young people valuable career advice and guidance.

Sarah Danson, Business Engagement Manager, GFirst LEP said: “Gloucestershire Skillsfest 2014 is set to be a great success and we are thrilled that we have the support from businesses across the county together with the backing of our GL Ambassadors who will be volunteering their own time to provide careers advice that will help inspire young people in their future careers. It’s a brilliant opportunity for young people and their parents from across the county to see what career options are available to them once they leave education.”

Coinciding with National Apprenticeship Week and the launch of the local Apprenticeship Awards taking place in Gloucestershire, Skillsfest is superb opportunity to see at first hand the examples of apprenticeship opportunities that are available county-wide.”

Skillsfest 2014 is on Friday 7th March from 9.30-3.30pm and Saturday 8th March from 9.30-1.00pm. If you are a potential apprentice or employer, please visit www.glosskillsfest.co.uk for more information.

Skillsfest 2014 is being organised by the Skills Show Experience, part of the European Social Fund Technical Assistance project, awarded to the Skills Funding Agency to promote the European Social Fund. Skillfest is also co-funded by the Skills Funding Agency.
