Flood response work continues as Lloyds Bank volunteers head to Tewkesbury - media invite

More than 30 volunteers from Lloyds Bank will arrive in Tewkesbury at the end of this month to help clean up and brighten Victoria Gardens.

More than 30 volunteers from Lloyds Bank will arrive in Tewkesbury at the end of this month to help clean up and brighten Victoria Gardens.

On Wednesday, 30 April from 9.30am, the volunteers from across the county will help to plant flower tubs, clear mud, tidy borders and paint railings following the damage caused by the floods during February.

The clearance work and improvements will add to the hard work already carried out by Friends of Victoria Gardens, which has recently prepared flower beds for planting at the end of May.

The gardens, which run alongside the River Severn, were flooded for days during the worst of the weather in February and as a result mud and debris remain on many of the paths and the grass.

The group of volunteers came forward following Tewkesbury Borough Council’s shout out for help and support for the post flooding clean-up process.

As well as the group of volunteers, the bank will also be providing its rapid response vehicle as an information point, with their Senior Claims Manager, Martyn Foulds, attending to talk about protecting homes from flooding and answering residents’ questions.

On the same day, Tewkesbury Borough Council’s Grounds Maintenance team will be out cutting the grass and providing support to the volunteers.

Tewkesbury Borough Council’s Lead Member for Clean and Green Environment Cllr Jim Mason said: “We are very grateful to have been offered this voluntary support from Lloyds Bank to help bring Victoria Gardens back to its very best condition.

"We’ve been working with communities across the borough since February to make sure residents and businesses are supported following the effects of the flooding, and we will continue to do so until we have fully recovered. As well as the community support on offer, there is still a range of financial support available for businesses and residents – more information is on our website.”

Mayor of Tewkesbury Borough Cllr Claire Wright and Mayoress Elaine Hancox will visit Victoria Gardens to meet the volunteers to thank them for their hard work at 2.30pm.

Cllr Wright said: “I am looking forward to welcoming these kind volunteers to our borough and thanking them for taking the time to support us. The response to the flooding from all organisations has been first class, and I am pleased to see that efforts are still continuing to make sure communities can return to normal.”
